About
Patina Building Conservation was founded by Declan Cahill. Declan gained an interest in historic buildings from the want to go and explore buildings or parts of them that nobody else got to go into. He studied Building Surveying at the University of Salford, focussing on architectural history, building pathology and conservation, quickly ensuring that he focussed on historic buildings when he started work.
Starting his career in building conservation as a surveyor at the City of London, Declan worked on a portfolio of traditionally constructed buildings around Greater London. He was then extremely fortunate to complete the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) Scholarship in 2016 and since when has continued to support the SPAB through helping to deliver training, working parties and give back to the scholarship programme.
Declan went on to work for a conservation architect in the Lake District working on vernacular buildings in the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and Durham. He has also worked at Historic Environment Scotland in their technical research team providing advice internationally on the appropriate repair of historic buildings. Declan worked on large redevelopment projects of Victorian, Edwardian and 20th Century Listed Buildings at a conservation architectural practice, providing building surveying, technical advice and heritage consultancy services.
Declan is a member of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC), a member of the Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB) and Associate Member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). He is also a member of the SPAB And Building Limes Forum.
